Born with Fire in the Belly: The Passion Behind Laura’s Success
Leader in Focus
Laura González, Digital Vice President
Laura González’s career is a shining example of how passion drives success. From an early age, she embodied Unearth’s core value of having a “fire in the belly,” approaching every endeavor with determination and purpose. Whether performing as a percussionist in her Pomolita Middle School orchestra, serving as Student Body President at California State University, Sacramento, launching her start-up, or earning spots in the prestigious CORO Fellowship and Panetta Institute programs, Laura’s relentless drive has been the cornerstone of her journey. Today, that same passion fuels her work in digital public affairs.
Before joining Unearth, Laura spent over three years as an Account Director at Imprenta Communications Group. In this role, she led high-impact campaigns for clients like Pacific Gas & Electric Company, The California Endowment, Covered California, SoCalGas, and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, integrating public affairs, media relations, and community outreach.
Laura’s journey with Unearth began in 2017 as an Account Executive. Her talent and ambition quickly earned her a promotion to Senior Account Executive. But just a year and a half later, Laura left Unearth to join Ogilvy. There, she led the 2020 California Citizens Redistricting Commission outreach campaign and closed out her career in public relations. Laura soon realized she missed Unearth’s fast-paced public affairs campaigns and freedom to use cutting-edge digital technology to craft winning strategies.
In 2019, Laura rejoined Unearth as an Account Supervisor. The decision to go back to Unearth felt like coming home. Since then, she has received four more promotions, working her way up to Digital Vice President.
For Laura, Unearth offers a unique intersection of public affairs and technology, a combination she finds exhilarating. She thrives in this space because it is where her fire in the belly is met with opportunity — navigating changes in policy and industry and culture trends while staying nimble, efficient, and effective.
“Laura is truly invested in helping our team meet its strategic goals. I really appreciate her collaboration and insight to make sure every project is developed efficiently and implemented effectively,” said Erin Shaw, Public Affairs and Strategic Communications at Sutter Health.
Laura’s passion isn’t limited to her client work; she is also a dedicated mentor. As an active member of She Shares, a mentorship program for young women, Laura inspires the next generation of leaders. Katherine Lynch, an account executive at Lucas Public Affairs and Laura’s former She Shares mentee, said, “Laura is an incredible mentor. She leads by example, empowering me to grow and navigate challenges with confidence. Her dedication to lifting others is truly inspiring.”
At Unearth, Laura’s fire in the belly fuels not only her personal growth but also the success of her clients and colleagues. Her journey is a reflection of her belief in the power of connection, innovation, and passion to drive meaningful change.
